I created this prop for the 2008 Haunted Crypt. It is actually one of the easiest pneumatic props to build, and provides a creepy effect if timed properly.
The Spider “Pods” are constructed by cutting the bottom of a 2 liter bottle open, threading a string through the top and tying it inside the bottle to something larger than the top of the bottle so it can hang, and then decorating with batting and fuzzy yarn which can be found at a fabric store. Many “white” fabrics will glow “blue” under blacklight for an eerie effect. More details on making these are on the Spider Pod page.
